Pray Proclaim and Promote the Gospel of Life
Summer 2003
Jesus said
to his disciples It was not you who chose
me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will
remain
(John 15: 16)
I encourage each of you as Black Catholic
to go forth and bear much fruit as you plant the Culture of Life in our
African American community

June is Abortion
Awareness Month in the Black Community.
NBCAL, is asking that during the months of
June- September, National Black Catholic organizations would extend the advocacy
for Abortion Awareness Month. We are very grateful that all of our National
Black Catholic organizations are represented on the National Black Catholic
Apostolate for Life Board of Consultants.
The National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life
Abortion Awareness in the Black Community,
will be launched at the
The National Black Sisters Conference July 2003.
The National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus Conference (PARCCC) July 2003.
The National Association of African American Catholic Deacons July 2003.
The Knights of Peter Claver Convention - August 2003.
The National Association of Black
Catholic Administrations Meeting - September 2003.
As Franciscan Father Jim Goode stated:
One person or one group cannot direct this campaign against death alone,
but with the God of life on our side, one person, and one group can make a
difference between life and death.
In our Masses and Prayers let us pray for the end of Abortion.
Please also pray for all Victims of Violence and the Culture of death.
Abortion Must End

We are afraid of being branded,
afraid of being ridiculed. So we devise ways to avoid having to say what we
believethat God is life and all life comes from Him, that a culture of
death is simply a
culture without God, who is life.
We must change this.

Congress Lauded
For Passing President Bushs
$1.5 Billion Global AIDS Initiative.
The U.S. Congress has passed a bill that would provide assistance
to those suffering with HIV AIDS in Africa and the Caribbean. On May 27, 2003, President Bush singed the U. S. Leadership Against HIV-AIDS, Tuberculosis and Marlaria Act of 2003. The bill is intended to curb the AIDS epidemic in 12 African
nations and
two in the Caribbean.
It will authorize enough money, proponents said, to prevent 7 million
new infections, provide antiretroviral drugs for 2 million people infected with H.I.V. and care for 10 million patients, as well as children orphaned by the disease. NBCAL is grateful that a
third of the money for prevention will go toward programs that promote abstinence until marriage.
The National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life also commends the
National African American Catholic HIV-AIDS Task Force for
their commitment in bringing us to a greater awareness of HIV-AIDS.
Collaboratively we are calling for prevention, care, and compassion in our HIV-AIDS ministry. We strongly invite our parishes and institutions to fully support
the efforts and programs of our
NAAC HIV-AIDS Task Force.
