As we begin Respect Life Month (October 2009) “we are reminded as Black Catholics that all human life is sacred and must be protected” stated Franciscan Father James E. Goode, President – National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life, “Our responsibility to protect and defend all human life is not an option but who we are as Catholics”.
The theme for Respect Life 2009, presented by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops: Pro-Life Activities Office is: “Every Child Brings Us God’s Smile”. Respect Life Month helps us to focus our attention on the sacredness of all human life from the moment of conception to the natural end. Each year NBCAL gathers in various parishes and institutions throughout the United States as Black Catholics on the vigil of Respect Life Sunday. Our purpose is to pray for an end to abortion and all acts of violence that destroy the dignity of human life. It is imperative that as we include in our prayers equal justice and equal health care for all the people of God and not just a select few among us, according to Father James Goode.
If you are in the New York area we invite you to join us at the
