During the Bronx Black Catholic Caucus Lenten
Revival, preached by Franciscan Father James E. Goode at St. Angela Merici
Catholic Church, Father Goode President of the National Black Catholic
Apostolate for Life called on Black Catholics to support the banning of human
cloning.
“Our message as
people of life and justice is clear: human cloning whether carried out for human
reproduction or therapeutic purposes violates the right to life and the status
of the human embryo. Our Holy Father Pope John Paul II and the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops firmly supports a comprehensive ban on human
cloning”. The position of the
Roman Catholic Church is founded on biological analysis of the cloning procedure
and anthropological, social, ethical and legal reflection on the negative
implications that human cloning has on the life, dignity and rights of the human
person. As Bishop Wilton Gregory,
President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said: “Human
cloning violates fundamental ethical and moral norms, and is to be condemned
unequivocally.”
“From
the pulpit to the pews, from the pews to the community, from the community to
our elected officials, as Black Catholics for Life, let’s get the word out
load and clear RESPECT LIFE – DON’T CLONE IT”, stated Father Goode.
